And the Oscar goes to... BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY!

Being a writer, two of my favorite awards are the Oscars for screenplays, both adapted and original. They’re often the best speeches of the night too—who could forget Dustin Lance Black’s heartfelt speech for MILK last year! God, it still makes me weep! This year, the nominees for Best Adapted Screenplay are:

Neill Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell for DISTRICT 9
Nick Hornby for AN EDUCATION
Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci and Tony Roche for IN THE LOOP
Geoffrey Fletcher for PRECIOUS
Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner for UP IN THE AIR

And the Oscar will go to (according to Geoff)…

For the complexities of character and its comment on the world we live in today (both emotionally and economically) I think the gold statuette will go to Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner for UP IN THE AIR.
